The Starfish Story
Original Story by: Loren Eisley
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.
The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?
You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish,
and threw it back into the surf.

And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Jude 22-23

I wrote a song based on this story, right before we adopted our son, who is now 10 years old. You can read the lyrics, and Jerry's story at my starfish blog:

I love this story! And yet how many times do we not even try to help "one" because we know we can't help them "all"? Lord, help me to work to bring one at a time to You!
Hope you're having a good week Liesa!
Marilyn
I have always loved this and heard it in a few different variations but it's still so true!
