Thank God For My Christian Home

Thirty-five years ago today was a Monday and Labor Day.  A little nine year old boy named Scot and his family were camping, as they did quite a bit together.  Nothing extra special about the day other than the little boy and his sister being out of school and his parents being off from work for the holiday.  BUT GOD...   This little boy had gone in front of his church several months before that day and sat on the front pew with the pastor.  The pastor explained to the little boy how to be saved and told the boy that he'd have to pray and ask God to forgive his sins and to come into his heart.  The little boy just sat there and didn't pray.  He got up and went back to his seat still lost.  BUT GOD...   Years before this particular Labor Day thirty-five years ago, when the little boy was just a toddler, he woke up in the middle of the night and went to his parent's bedroom.  When he woke his daddy up, the daddy jumped out of the bed in a hurry.  The little boy didn't realize, but he'd just saved his families lives.  The families house was on fire.  His mother carried him and his sister across the road to the great grandparents house where the little boy stood and saw his house burn to the ground.

Thirty-five years ago on that Labor Day night, the family had returned home from the camp grounds and went to bed expecting to arise the next day to their usual routine of school and work.  The little boy had a visitor that night after he went to bed.  God knocked on his heart's door. That little boy had seen the huge flames of fire that had burned his house to the ground several years before that night, but tonight, he saw those flames in a different way.  He knew that if he died lost, he'd burn forever in hell.   The little boy was scared and he called for his mother and daddy.  They sat next to him on his bed.  He told them what was wrong and to this  his daddy told him that he couldn't help him this time.  He told his son that he'd have to do what the Bible says in Romans 10, call upon the Lord.  Finally, the daddy asked his son if he would like to go talk to their pastor and the little boy thought that maybe after some fresh air, he'd feel better.  The parents and the little boy went to the pastor's office that night where the little boy bowed his heart to God and asked Jesus Christ to save him.

The special thing about that day to me is what a difference it made in my life.  That little boy grew up to be my husband and my children's daddy.  Salvation makes a difference in people, homes, and lives.  II Corinthians 5:17 says this:  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are new.  I firmly believe that salvation brings a change.  I heard one preacher say it like this:  "I'm not what I want to be,  I'm not what I'm gonna be.  But, thank God, I'm not what I used to be."   Because that little boy named Scot accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour 35 years ago today, I have a husband who cherishes and loves me.  I have a husband who puts my needs before his own.  I have a husband who lives his life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the best of his ability to be pleasing to the Lord.  I have no need to worry where he is when we are apart, I have no need to worry if he's coming home drunk, I have no need to worry if he'll provide for me...Thank the Lord for my Christian husband.  My children have a daddy who they can pattern their lives after because they see him pattern his life after Christ.  I thank God for my Christian Home.

THANK GOD FOR MY CHRISTIAN HOME

IF YOU LOOK ON MY FAMILY IN PITY,
AND YOU WONDER HOW WE STRUGGLE ALONG.
THEN YOUR EYES CAN'T SEE ALL MY RICHES,
THANK GOD FOR MY CHRISTIAN HOME.

CHORUS
WHEN I'M SAD AND DISCOURAGED FROM FAILURE,
AND FEEL THE WHOLE WORLD IS AGAINST ME
AND EVERY THING'S WRONG.
ALL I NEED FOR COURAGE IS TO WHISPER,
THANK GOD FOR MY CHRISTIAN HOME.

I'M NOT SEEKING FOR RICHES OR POWER.
IN A WORLD THAT I CAN'T CALL MY OWN.
BUT I'M LAYING UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN,
WHERE NO SORROW WILL EVER BE KNOWN.

I WILL LEAVE THIS OLD WORLD LIKE I FOUND IT,
TAKING WITH ME NO SILVER OR GOLD.
BUT THE STRONG HAND OF DEATH HAS NO POWER
TO BREAK THE CIRCLE OF MY CHRISTIAN HOME.

Happy 35th Saved By Grace Birthday to Scot
